One Down
We made it through the first week teaching!! Hooray! And although at times it was a complete gong show those big, brown, innocent eyes just keep me coming back for more! The children are absolutely adorable! And I know I've said this before, but the days just fly by! In order to focus on teaching, and not on my homesickness I even adopted President Hinckley's motto of "Forget yourself and go to work." After all I am here to provide service to god's children, and not just to tour. That's for our vacations! haha!
This week I began joining my host mom at the gym in the mornings. She takes a kickboxing class in a little gym downtown and it is INTENSE! haha!! I haven't been this sore since Wham camp in grade 9, which tells me two thing: 1. I let myself get out of shape while away at school, and 2. No one's gonna want to mess with this tough girl when I get home!! haha!! I'm loving that I'm actually starting to bond with my host family, and surprisingly enough I have picked up a small amount of spanish, but next week's spanish lessons are still more then welcome!!!
My days never feel to full as all I do is work out in the mornings then walk to the school to teach for four hours, and spend time with my host family, however I'm finding that by the time night hits I am exhausted! I'm always the first one in the house to go to bed, and the last one to wake up, and I don't always get a full 8hrs of sleep, so I think I've solved the mystery as to why all the people here are so short! They never sleep! haha! I'm only 5'6 and I feel like and absolute giant! I can't imagine how all the taller girls in my group must feel! But it's just another thing that makes us stand out. Not only are we like the only white people in the city, but we are WAY taller then everyone. And because we are recognizably foreigners we get a lot of attention...from the boys. I cannot count the number of times I am whistled at, called after, etc. on my way to school. And it's even worse when we all go somewhere together. It's crazy! Although to me the whole country/culture seems crazy! All I can say is I'm so grateful to skype, and facebook, as they help me feel closer to home, and to something familiar! Skype really is a beautiful invention! Love that I can call home anytime and see my family! :)

But it must make you feel pretty good to get all those whistles hey? ;) Would I fit in as far as height goes? Good for you to go kickboxing! Then you can kick my butt into gear when you move to Edmonton ;) Glad to know you're enjoying yourself.
