This weekend was quite the adventure! After I finished training at the school on Saturday my host dad picked me up, and we met the rest of the family at the Aunt's restaurant. Here I met a cousin the same age as me who spoke a little bit of english, which was a nice change! haha! It was still very hard to talk to her as he english was very limited, but it was definitely better then the lightning fast spanish I've been trying to listen to and pick up on!

After spending several hours just sitting and talking at the restaurant we went to a park that had rides, and food booths. Sort of like an EXTREMELY smally corn fest. There they bought food from almost every single food stand and made me try a little bit of everything...including corn...haha! My favorite thing was something called Chewros. It was some sort of deepfried dough stick rolled in sugar! So unhealthy, but sooo delicious! :) Then when Sunday rolled around I went to church with me host mom. Church was very different from what I expected, but I'm glad to report it's still true over here! Even though I didn't understand much I was able to feel the spirit, and that's what matters! And just like Sundays in Canada we spent the afternoon as a family! This Sunday was also a special Sunday here in Mexico as it was a Mexican holiday called Cinco de Mayo, and there was a huge parade that went through main street.

After surviving the weekend Monday rolled around, meaning that today was my first day teaching. I was so nervous, and no matter how long I spent preparing I didn't feel ready. But we rolled with it, and I think it went ok! I had to teach a couple of what we call basic reading classes which my training didn't cover so I read from a manual on how to do it, and we just went with it! The kids were really good, and caught on really fast! The only problem with that is that now I have no material to cover for the rest of the week haha! So that class is going to require a bit of work to make the work last! They just catch on sooo fast! And my kinder kids are so adorable! They are between the ages of 4-6, and they all have the cutest big brown eyes! I love it!

Teaching goes by really fast as well which is a bonus! The four hours seemed to only take one or two, and before I knew it, it was eight o' clock, and the kids were on their way home! So far Mexico has been really good to us! I will admit that I am homesick, but I really can't complain too much! Love you all! <3
I'm happy to hear you're enjoying the reason you went (teaching) :)
ReplyDeleteit's hard to believe you're in a foreign country! Crazy! How are things with the other teachers?
Teaching is awesome! But nursing is still what I want to do when I get home! And the other teachings are awesome! Such fun spirited girls! Looking forward to the weekend with them!
