I survived my first 24 hrs. in Tehuacan! So far everything has been completely different then I expected, but not in a bad way. People here are CRAZY drivers! I cannot count the number of times I have been sure that I was going to be in a car accident but miraculously survived! No one obeys the traffic laws. You will see people passing on a double solid yellow, they treat stop signs as yields AT BEST, and pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way.
When we arrived in Tehuacan after a long terrifying drive we were pick up by our host families which I'll admit was awkward. My "parents" speak little to no english, and I speak little to no spanish, so communication is extremely difficult and frustrating at times. However their 16 yr old daughter has been a very patient translator for us! Myself and two others girls are stuck in the same predicament, and as a result we were extremely happy to see each other today at school! This is definitely a bonus as I feel that the communication barriers with our families brings us closer together as teachers!
The food so far is delicious! I've only eaten tacos so far, haha, but they are soooo good! Not as spicy as a was expecting, so I guess my dad prepared me well, and I don't really find the food spicy at all! haha!!
Keep a sharp eye out for those drivers! I'd appreciate it if you came home alive and in one piece. :) Give it everything you've got as this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I love you and wish I could be there with you! Tell us about your classes etc. I want to hear more :)
